A notification from the Cabinet Division issued on Sunday instructed all ministries, divisions, and organizations to observe the day annually. However, it is important to note that February 25 will not be a public holiday.
The Pilkhana Massacre Reinvestigation: Commission Seeks Army's Cooperation During Meeting with General Waker-uz-Zaman
On February 25, 2009, a violent uprising broke out at the Pilkhana Darbar Hall, when several hundred mutineers of the then Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), now known as the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), rebelled and brutally killed 74 people. Among the victims were 56 brave army officers, including the then BDR chief, Major General Shakil Ahmed. This tragic event remains a poignant and somber chapter in the nation’s history, marked by an unspeakable loss.
While the government has decided not to form a new inquiry committee at this time, efforts to reinvestigate the massacre continue. The Commission has called for cooperation from the army as part of these ongoing efforts, with the latest meeting held with General Waker-uz-Zaman to ensure progress.
Every year, February 25 serves as a reminder of the sacrifice made by these heroes. It is a day for the nation to reflect with deep sorrow and respect, paying tribute to those who gave their lives in the service of their country.
