Home Adviser Lt. Gen. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) stated today that the prices of essential commodities are lower this year compared to the same period last year.

“The prices of goods are significantly reduced compared to last year. It is important that the media highlights this,” he said. “It is better to maintain lower prices without the need for aggressive drives against price syndicates.”

He made these remarks after inspecting the Public Order Management office in Mirpur this evening.

The home adviser urged business owners to refrain from hiking prices during the holy month of Ramadan, drawing attention to international practices where the prices of goods typically decrease during religious holidays.

“Unfortunately, in our country, the prices tend to increase during religious festivals,” he observed, appealing to all stakeholders to make efforts to lower prices of essential goods during Ramadan.

When asked about the recent assault on two women in broad daylight, Jahangir Alam clarified that the incident stemmed from a confrontation in which the women threw tea on a group of people protesting against public smoking by females.

The home adviser also emphasized the need to respect the sanctity of Ramadan by avoiding public consumption of food, urging everyone to observe the holy month with mindfulness and respect.
