Steps Taken to Declare Sandwip a Seaport: Chief Adviser

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus announced today that efforts are underway to declare Sandwip a seaport and open the Kumira-Guptachara ghat. He also outlined plans to launch a Dhaka-Kumira bus service, build roads in the ferry ghat area, and ensure regular dredging of the waterway.
Speaking at a public gathering to mark the launch of the Chattogram-Sandwip ferry service, the Chief Adviser joined the event virtually from the State Guest House Jamuna. He emphasized that these initiatives would significantly alleviate the long-standing challenges faced by Sandwip’s residents.
“With the new ferry service, people of all ages, including children, the elderly, and the sick, will now be able to cross the sea safely and comfortably,” he said.
Professor Yunus also urged Sandwip residents to actively contribute to the development of their communities. He highlighted the important role they play in supporting the nation’s economy by sending remittances from abroad.
The ferry service, a long-awaited development for Sandwip’s 400,000 residents, was officially launched by Shipping Adviser Brigadier General (retd) M Shakhawat Hossain. He inaugurated the newly constructed ferry terminal and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) bus station at Banshbaria in Sitakunda at 8:30 am.
The ferry will operate between Banshbaria in Chattogram’s Sitakunda upazila and Guptachara in Sandwip, marking a significant milestone in improving connectivity for the island’s residents.
