Injured July Uprising Protesters Block Shahbagh, Demand Full AL Ban

Protesters injured in last year’s July uprising staged a sit-in at Dhaka’s Shahbagh intersection on Sunday morning, demanding justice and a complete ban on the Awami League (AL).


The demonstration, led by the National Citizen Party (NCP), severely disrupted traffic, affecting commuters and patients heading to hospitals nearby.

This protest follows the government’s announcement on Saturday suspending all AL activities—both online and offline—under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The suspension will remain in effect pending the International Crimes Tribunal’s verdict on the party’s alleged role in last year’s deadly unrest.

Authorities said an official gazette notification will be issued on the next working day.
