Dhaka, 15 June - Former national selector Hannan Sarkar is set to back in Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) but as a coach this time around.
Hannan confirmed the news through a video message on social media, saying that he will join the BCB as the head coach of the Bangladesh Under-17 team this month.
Hannan left the job from the national team selection panel in a bid to build his coaching career.
He then joined Abahani Limited and led the team to the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) championship. He has since confirmed a move to Legends of Rupganj for the next season.
"The reason for stepping down from the selector's duties was to focus fully on coaching, to contribute to the country's cricket through coaching…With that thought in mind, I came to coaching and coached Abahani Limited to champion in the Dhaka Premier League,” he said in a video message.
He added, "Then I was in cricket board. It could be at HP or somewhere else. It didn't happen at HP, because other coaches are working there. So, the cricket board wants to use me in age-level cricket. I also wanted to contribute to Bangladesh cricket by working in any place.''
He will begin his new role at the Challenger Series for the Under-16s, which starts tomorrow (Monday) at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan (BKSP).
The tournament will serve as the selection ground for the upcoming Under-17 squad. Hannan will work with them to take them forward, ''For now, we are starting with the Under-17s. There are more plans ahead. The journey that we are starting with age-level cricket, will play a big role in fulfilling a bigger dream in the future.''BSS
