Ex Secy Shofiquzzaman made CAB’s president
AHM Shofiquzzaman has been made the new President of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB).
The decision was made unanimously during a meeting of the CAB Central Executive Council on Tuesday.
A veteran government official, Shofiquzzaman joined the public service in 1994 as an officer of the 13th BCS administration cadre. Throughout his career, he served in various key roles within field administration and several ministries.
He held positions as Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce and later became the Director-General of the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection. He also served as Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment. Known for his administrative skills and contributions to government policy formulation and implementation, he recently went on post-retirement leave, reports UNB.
The members of the executive council expressed hope that under his leadership, the consumer rights movement will become more powerful and dynamic. They also believe that CAB's role in protecting and promoting consumer interests will be further enriched, according to a press release.
