Three people, including a child were killed and several others injured in a road accident at Silonia area on the Feni-Noakhali regional highway under Daganbhuyan upazila of the district this morning.

The deceased were identified as Shamim Ara Begum, 50, Shraban, 12 and another woman aged around 35, whose identity could not be confirmed immediately.

Witnesses said the accident took place around 11am when a Mahipal-bound passenger bus 'Sugandha' lost control while climbing the Silonia Bridge over the Silonia River. The bus first hit the bridge railing and then rammed into an electric pole.

Moments later, a covered van coming from behind collided with the bus, pushing it forward into a roadside tea stall at Silonia Bazar, reports BSS.

Three passengers of the bus died on the spot and several others sustained injuries.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mohipal Highway Police Harunur Rashid confirmed the accident.

"We rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information. The injured were sent to Feni Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared three dead. The bodies have been kept at the hospital morgue for autopsy," he said.

Police have removed the accident-damaged vehicles and normal traffic movement has resumed on the highway, the OC added.
