Bangladesh has set a world record with a spectacular mass parachuting display, as 54 paratroopers carried the national flag in a coordinated skydive to mark 54 years of independence.
The event was organised by the Armed Forces on Tuesday at the parade ground beside Tejgaon Old Airport in the capital. A total of 54 members of “Team Bangladesh” descended simultaneously, establishing a new record for the highest number of paratroopers jumping together while holding flags.
Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus witnessed the historic display.
The programme also included a flypast featuring aircraft and helicopters from the Army, Navy and Air Force, with the Bangladesh Air Force performing a series of aerial manoeuvres.
Thousands of spectators gathered at the Tejgaon old airport area to watch the Victory Day air show. By around 11:00 am, long queues formed near the Agargaon gates as visitors entered after security checks.
Members of the Army, Air Force and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed to ensure security throughout the event.
