The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has announced a review and verification of the official list of freedom fighters to ensure the accurate preservation of Bangladesh’s Liberation War history.

The decision was made on Sunday during a meeting at the ministry’s conference room with members of the National Freedom Fighters Council, the ministry said in a press release. Several measures were adopted to authenticate the list of genuine freedom fighters and safeguard historical records.

Liberation War Affairs Minister Hafiz Uddin Ahmed attended the meeting and highlighted the central role of the Liberation War in establishing Bangladesh’s independence and statehood. He stressed that the war should not be equated with other movements and warned against its political misuse, which has prevented younger generations from learning the true history.

The minister noted that many young Bangladeshis remain unaware of the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and the hardships endured during the struggle for independence. “The Liberation War is the core foundation of the birth of this state,” he said.

The meeting was also attended by ministry Secretary Israt Chowdhury, council members, and senior ministry officials.
