PM visits relatives’ graves, offers fateha in Dinajpur

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday evening visited the graves of his relatives and offered fateha at Sheikh Farid Model Graveyard on the outskirts of Dinajpur town.

On his way to Syedpur Airport from Dinajpur Circuit House to return to Dhaka, the Prime Minister went to the graveyard, said his Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu.

He said the Prime Minister offered fateha at the graves of his grandfather Md Iskander Majumder, grandmother Taiba Majumder and aunt Khurshid Jahan Haque.

The Prime Minister reached Syedpur airport on Monday morning on his way to Dinajpur to inaugurate a nationwide canal excavation and re-excavation programme.

He left Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 9:30am on a domestic flight and arrived at Saidpur Airport around 10:15am.

From there, he travelled by road to Dinajpur and inaugurated the nationwide canal excavation and re-excavation programme by cutting soil with a spade at the Sahapara canal in Kaharole upazila.

Later, he addressed a public rally near the Sahapara canal in Kaharole upazila of Dinajpur, jointly organised by the Water Resources Ministry and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

In the evening, he attended an iftar gathering and a views-exchange meeting with distinguished guests and political leaders at the Dinajpur Circuit House before returning to Dhaka by air at night.

Before the iftar event, the Prime Minister distributed 20 Black Bengal goats under a rehabilitation and alternative employment programme for people engaged in begging.

It was Tarique Rahman’s first visit outside the capital since assuming office as Prime Minister on February 17.
