The West, led by the Trump administration, enabled the Netanyahu government to commit crimes against humanity and became complicit in the horrific disaster inflicted on the Palestinians in Gaza.
The war in Gaza has crossed many red lines, rendering Palestinian lives worthless and of no consequence. Most of these crimes could have been prevented if Western powers—led by the United States—had not provided nearly unconditional political, economic, and military support to Israel.
If this does not constitute complicity in war crimes against tens of thousands of innocent Palestinians, then what does?
Western claims of moral high ground have collapsed. Despite Gaza lying in ruins and over 59,000 people killed, Western support remains unabated. While 2.1 million Palestinians starve, the flow of weapons continues, with minimal concern for the humanitarian catastrophe.
France, UK, and Germany’s Role
The UK, France, and Germany have consistently backed Israel’s onslaught, citing its right to self-defense. Only recently have they begun to consider measures like suspending trade or imposing sanctions to push Israel toward a ceasefire and humanitarian access.
The UK, France, and Canada issued a joint warning of “concrete reactions,” including targeted sanctions, if Israel fails to end its renewed offensive. They have also hosted international conferences to promote a ceasefire and a two-state solution.
However, these limited steps fall far short of what is needed. Western powers must impose a complete arms embargo and suspend trade to pressure Netanyahu’s government.
US Complicity in Netanyahu’s Crimes
The US holds more leverage over Israel than all other Western nations combined, yet neither the Biden nor Trump administrations have used this power to end the war devastating Gaza.
Since October 2023, the US has provided Israel with $22.76 billion in military assistance, according to the Costs of War Project. In January 2025, Trump authorized the release of 1,800 MK-84 bombs—previously withheld by Biden—despite mounting civilian casualties.
Instead of pressing for peace, Trump has floated proposals like turning Gaza into a “luxury riviera” or relocating Palestinians to a third country—ideas that align with Netanyahu’s hardline agenda.
A Possible Turning Point
Trump now faces a choice: remain silent and be complicit in war crimes or act decisively to end the conflict and revive the peace process toward a two-state solution. His influence over Israel gives him the power to demand an immediate ceasefire and humanitarian aid.
Failure to act would not only deepen this humanitarian catastrophe but also leave an indelible stain on his legacy.
