Urge to promote local culture as shield against alien culture

Speakers at a discussion meeting in the capital on Saturday called for concerted efforts to strengthen efforts to revive the rich local culture of Bangladesh to prevent the intrusion of alien culture.

The programme organised by the Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Jote at the Sufia Kamal Auditorium of the National Museum was told that the rich tradition of indigenous culture was systematically suppressed during the little over 15 years of fascist rule when alien culture was promoted. 

ASM Abdul Halim, former cabinet secretary and chairman, Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation, Prof. Sukomol Barua of Dhaka University and adviser to BNP chairperson, Mostafa Kamal Majumder, editor, GreenWatch Dhaka, Khairul Kabir Khokan, joint secretary general, BNP and Razabuddaulah Chowdhury, former chief JASAS were special guests at the function presided over by Humayun Kabir Bepari, president, Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Dal. Mozammel Hossain Shaheen, conducted the meeting.

The function was also addressed by Aminul Islam Shahin, RP Ripon, Gonorantrik Sangskritik Jote, James Suman, president, Gonotantrik Sangskritik Jote, M Rahman, Jatiyatabadi Sangakritik Dal, Abul Hasehm Chowdhury, BD Union Parishad Association and journalist Asaduzzaman Babul.

The speakers recalled the big initiatives taken by late President Ziaur Rahman to revive the Bangladeshi culture through the promotion of art, literture, movies and colour television and introduction of various awards. The former president wanted Bangladesh to make brilliant strides in the path of development on the basis of equality of the people promoted through his concept of Bangladeshi Nationalism.
