Imranur finishes 33rd, Asif 44th in CW Games

Birmingham, United Kingdom, Aug 2, 2022 (BSS)- Bangladesh's fastest man Imranur Rahman finished 33rd in men's 100m race and Asif Reza finished 44th in 50m freestyle swimming of the 22nd Commonwealth (CW) Games held Tuesday at the Sandwell Aquatic Centre here.

Bangladesh's Asif Reza finished last among eight competitors in the sixth heat of the men's 50m freestyle clocking 24.67 seconds. Asif, who finished 44th out of 71 swimmers, took 2.58 seconds more than top finisher Lewis Edward Barras of England.

In the women's 100m sprint, Sumaiya Dewan of Bangladesh was eliminated in the heat despite producing her own best timing. Sumaiya finished seventh out of seven in hit number three.
 
Sumaiya clocked 12.42 seconds finishing 19th out of 21 swimmers. She took 1.43 seconds more than top place finisher Grace Nwokwacha of Nigeria.

Imranur Rahman could not put up his best timing in men's 100m sprint. The British expatriate athlete did not reach his best at the Commonwealth Games. Imran took part in heat number seven of the 100m sprint and finished third with a time of 10.46 seconds.

Imran's personal best timing was 10.22 seconds, which he clocked in London in preparation for the World Athletics. His place in the semi-finals would have been secured if he had achieved his best timing in the Commonwealth Games. Jake Doran of Australia reached the semi-finals as the last competitor clocking 10.39 seconds.

Bangladesh's Kazi Monira finished ninth in women's 76 kg weight category in weightlifting event. At snatch, Monira lifted 75 kg in her first attempt, but she failed to lift 78 kg twice. In the clean and jerk, Monira lifted 95 kg in her second attempt after she failed to make it in her first attempt. She however, failed to lift 98 kg.
