Champion Ziaur receives cash prize



DHAKA- Champion GM Ziaur Rahman, who emerged champion in the SAIF POWERTEC Asian Zonal Chess Championship (Hybrid Chess) and qualified for the FIDE World Cup Chess, received cash prize of US$ one thousand.

The prize distribution of the championship was held today at the Shapla hall room of Bangladesh Police headquarter in the city.

Dr Benazir Ahmed, Inspector General of Bangladesh Police and president of Bangladesh Chess Federation and South Asian Chess Council distributed the prizes among winners’ as the chief guest.

Tarafder Mohammad Ruhul Amin, managing director of SAIF POWERTEC Limited and vice president of Bangladesh Chess Federation (BCF) was present as special guest in the prize distribution ceremony.

Apart from Ziaur’s US$ one thousand, runner-up GM Enamul Hossain Razib got U$$ seven hundred , third place finisher CM Liyanage Ranindu Dilshan of Sri Lanka received US$ five hundred, fourth place finisher CM Manon Reja Neer of Bangladesh received US$ three hundred, fifth place finisher IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Bangladesh got US$ two hundred , sixth place finisher FM Khandaker Aminul Islam of Bangladesh, 7th-Mohammad Minhaz Uddin of Bangladesh and 8th AACB Amarasinge of Sri Lanka received US$ one hundred each.

A total of 39 players from Bangladesh, the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka took part in the event which was held in nine round Swiss-League system in hybrid system.BSS
