India thrash Japan 6-0 in Asian Champions Trophy

DHAKA - Defending champions India thrashed Japan by 6-0

goals in their last round-robin league match of the ongoing Hero Asian
Champions Trophy held today (Monday) at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey
Stadium.

  Having already qualified for the semifinal, India took their winning run
with a magnificent victory with Harmanpreet Singh striking twice and Dilpreet
Singh, Jaramnpreet Singh, Sumit and Shamsher Singh supporting him with a lone
goal each, while Suraj Karkera and Krishan Pathak made some brilliant saves
to keep the clean sheet for the men in blue.

  India took the lead in the first quarter when Harmanpreet Singh scored the
first goal converting a penalty corner in the 10th minute while Dilpreet
Singh doubled the lead in the second quarter scoring a field goal for India
in the 23rd minute.

  Jaramnpreet Singh further widened India's margin in the third quarter
scoring a field goal in the 34th minute. India scored three more goals in the
last quarter when Sumit scored the fourth goal in the 46th minute and
Harmanpreet made it 5-0 converting a penalty corner in the 53rd minute.

   Shamsher Singh completed the winners' tally scoring the sixth goal for
India in the 54th minute of the match.

  The day's win saw India reach top of the table with ten points from four
matches while Japan remained at their previous credit of five points playing the same number of outings.BSS
