Ziarul sets new national record

Dhaka, 26 Nov - Ziarul Islam of Bangladesh Army set the new  national record in the seventh Inter-service National Weightlifting  competition that concluded at Weightlifting Gymnasium in the capital on Tuesday.

On the last day of men's 96 kilograms (Kgs) weight category, Ziarul lifted a total of 287-kg - 131-kg in snatch and 156-kg in clean and jerk, said a press release. 
  
Another weightlifter Ashik Mondol Shibu of the same team emerged first in the 109+ weight category lifting a total of 269-kg - 117-kg in snatch and 152-kg in clean and jerk. He broke the previous record in clean and jerk. 

Besides, Shakhawat Hossain of Bangladesh Ansar emerged first in the 89-kg weight category lifting a total of 269-kg - 120-kg in snatch and 149-kg in clean and jerk. 
 
Niaz Mollah Abdullah of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) emerged top in the 102-kg weight category lifting a total of 265-kg -- 119-kg in snatch and 146-kg in clean and jerk.

Farhad Ali of Bangladesh Army emerged top in the 109-kg weight category lifting a total of 256-kg - 116-kg in snatch and 140-kg in clean and jerk.

Bangladesh Army emerged team event champions while Bangladesh Ansar and BGB finished first and second runners-up respectively.
 
Ashikur Rahman Taj of Bangladesh Army was adjudged the best weight lifter in the meet.
 
A total of 65 selected weightlifters -- 41 male and 24 female -- from five services teams took part in the three-day competition, orgainsed by Bangladesh Weightlifting Federation (BWF).
