V-Day Kabaddi competition begins tomorrow

DHAKA, Dec 18- The Victory Day Kabaddi Competition will begin 
Thursday at the Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali National Handball 
Stadium in the capital.

General Secretary of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation (BKF) SM Newaz Sohag and its Organizing Secretary Abdul Haque gave the details about the competition at a press conference held at Dutch Bangla Auditorium of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) on Wednesday.

The organisers informed that Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Ansar, Border Guard Bangladesh, Narail District, Faridpur District and Joypurhat District teams are participating in the women's section while Bangladesh Army, 
Bangladesh Air Force, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Police, Bangladesh Jail and Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defense are taking part in the men's section.

The preliminary round of both the [women's and men's] sections would be held on group basis. The top two teams from the two groups will play the semi-finals. The semi-final winners of the two sections would qualify for the finals which will be held on December 24.

SM Newaz Sohag said: "The selection process will be completed through the Victory Day Kabaddi competition. In future, we want to organise Tests series (5 match series) and discussions are going on with Sri Lanka and Nepal in this regards... Bangladesh will also play Tests against India in the future."

"We are going to start the "Youth Festival" through the Victory Day Kabaddi competition. You know that the youth festival is going to be organised in the country. We are proud to be the part in this festival. Bangladesh will prepare for the Youth World Cup by selecting players through the youth festival," he added.

Grouping 

Women's section: 

Group A - Bangladesh Police, Faridpur District and Narail District 

Group B - Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, Border Guard Bangladesh and Joypurhat district

Men's section:

Group A - Bangladesh Police, Fire Service and Civil Defense and Bangladesh Army.

Group B - Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Air Force and Bangladesh Jail.
