DMP arrests 406 in 24-hour drive across capital

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 406 people in separate drives across the capital over the past 24 hours until 6.00am on Tuesday and filed 50 cases during the period.


According to DMP, the arrestees included 35 from Ramna Division, 36 from Lalbagh Division, 31 from Wari Division, 45 from Motijheel Division, 59 from Tejgaon Division, 120 from Mirpur Division, 32 from Gulshan Division, 43 from Uttara Division and five by the Detective Branch (DB).

During the drives, police recovered 1.215 kg of cannabis, 2,290 yaba tablets, 15 pieces of used aluminium door and window frames of various sizes, a knife, a utility cutter, five mobile phones, a motorcycle and Tk 8,350 in cash.

DMP Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Niaz Mehedi said police conducted the drives in different police station areas of the capital, recovering drugs and locally made weapons while arresting the suspects, reports UNB.

Legal action against the arrestees is underway, he added.
