3 held on charge of extortion with arms, crude bombs in Khulna

Three held on the charge of extortion in Khulna on Tuesdayn night.

Khulna, Sept 30 -- Police arrested three alleged extortionists and recovered a foreign-made pistol, four rounds of ammunition and three crude bombs from their possession in the city on Tuesday night.

The arrestees were Md Al Amin, 23, son of Kislu Howladar of the area beside Mathabhanga Jute Mill; Md Rony Molla, 28, son of Abdur Rahim Molla of Rupsha Modern Seafood area; and Swaron Jomaddar, 26, son of Raju Jomaddar of Doctor Goli in Rupsha Stand.

Police and local residents alleged that the arrestees had been demanding extortion from ghat owners identifying themselves as members of two top criminal groups.

Acting on information, a team of Labancara police arrested them from Jalal’s Tush Mill in Rupsha Bridge area.

Assistant Police Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Md Shafiqul Islam said the suspects fell into sand while trying to escape after sensing the presence of police. - UNB
