New law on police force on anvil: Home minister

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Sunday announced that a new law for the Bangladesh Police will be enacted considering the current situation. 

The minister also said work is underway to draft Bangladesh Police Act aimed at turning the force more people friendly and service oriented.

In reply to a tabled query from Jatiya Party MP Fakhrul Imam in parliament he said various sections and sub-sections in this regard have been added in the draft Police Act.

Fakhrul wanted to know whether a full-fledged law would be enacted immediately to prevent chaos in police and to ensure transparency.

The home minister said the police is a disciplined force, reports UNB.

However, in case of negligence or violation of law by any police member in discharging  professional duties, action is taken  as per the prevailing rules, he said.

He also said there is no room for creating chaos in the police force.
