A septuagenarian man was beaten to death with hammers allegedly by his sons and other family members at Sadar upazila in Manikganj district on Sunday over a land dispute.
Deceased Arshed Ali, 75, was a resident of Char Ukiyara village in the upazila.
Quoting locals, police said Arshed Ali donated 10 satak of land to the authorities of a graveyard in the village. Later, an altercation took place between him and his sons over the issue.
As a sequel to that, Arshed's sons Khabir Hossain and Khorshed Ali along with their wives indiscriminately beat him with hammers around 8:00 am, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Manikganj Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, said additional superintendent of Manikganj Sadar Circle police (ASP) Kamrul Islam.
He said police detained four people, including son Khorshed, Khabir's wife Sahera, Khorshed's wife Ruma, for interrogation. But Khabir is absconding.
Legal steps will be taken after an investigation, the ASP added.
