Govt to step up measures for smooth Eid journey

Dhaka, Apr 05 - The government has intensified its efforts, with the highway police and relevant authorities coordinating various initiatives to ensure a smooth journey for the millions of Eid holidaymakers.

Additional Inspector General of Highway Police Shahabuddin Khan said this while speaking to reporters during an inspection of the Hatikumrul Highway area in Sirajganj on Thursday afternoon.

"In light of past experiences, areas prone to traffic congestion have been identified. Stringent safety measures will be in place for travelers on the roads. Furthermore, unauthorized vehicles will face strict surveillance," he said.

"Traditionally, congestion on highways, especially stemming from the exodus of Dhaka residents, has marred the Eid homecoming journey. However, this year, authorities are determined to avoid such disruptions. With these developments, this year's Eid journey is expected to be the safest and most hassle-free yet," he added.-UNB
