The Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Department of Police submitted a charge sheet against online activist Pinaki Bhattacharya and former Joint Secretary of Chhatra Dal, Mofizur Rahman Ashik in a Digital Security Act (DSA) case filed with Ramna Model Police Station in 2022.

As social media activist Pinaki Bhattacharya is absconding, an application has been submitted to issue an arrest warrant against him.

Meanwhile, due to the lack of concrete evidence, charges against BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia’s former Assistant Press Secretary Mushfiqul Fazal Ansari has been dropped.

General Registration Officer of Ramna Thana Court, SI Nizam Uddin confirmed the matter, saying that, it was stated in the charge sheet that the accused people are known to each other and have always indulged in spreading misleading information to hurt the sovereignty of the country.

Pinaki Bhattacharya has been spreading false and deceptive information in the form of rumors on his Facebook page with a view to creating a chaos within the country, he added.

It is also mentioned in the charge sheet that the accused Mofizur Rahman Ashik deliberately tried to tarnish the image and reputation of the state through anti-state propaganda on social media, which ultimately falsely represented the regular activities of the law and order forces.

On October 15 of 2022, Sub-Inspector M. Abdullahil Maruf of CTTC Department of DMP filed the case. - Special Correspondent
