Detectives detained Shaukat Mahmood, former president of the Jatiya Press Club from Malibagh area of the capital on Sunday.

A team of DB police picked him up from his residence, said Deputy Commissioner of DMP (Media and Public Relations Division) Talebur Rahman.

However, it is not clear in which case the senior journalist was detained.

On April 25 this year, a new political party named Janata Party Bangladesh was formed.

Actor Ilias Kanchan was the chairman and Shaukat Mahmood was elected the secretary general of the party, reports UNB.

Shaukat Mahmood, once a vice-chairman of the BNP, was expelled from the party on March 21, 2023.
