BNP nomination board on Friday interviewed aspirants for partys Thakurgaon-1 by-election ticket.



Dhaka, Sept 18: BNP’s nomination board on Friday interviewed the party’s nomination candidates for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election, with the final decision to be announced later.

The National Standing Committee meeting of the BNP effectively served as the party’s nomination board meeting. The meeting began around 7pm at the BNP chairman’s office in Gulshan.

Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman and members of the Standing Committee took part in the interview process.

After the meeting, BNP Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the party’s National Standing Committee meeting essentially serves as the nomination board meeting.

According to the party’s constitution, the National Standing Committee performs the responsibility of the party’s nomination board, he said.

Rizvi said the Thakurgaon-1 seat fell vacant after Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir assumed the presidency. The by-election to the seat will be held on Oct 29.

According to the Election Commission’s schedule, Sept 27 is the last date for submitting nomination papers.

He said the nomination aspirants were interviewed by the nomination board, with BNP Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman presiding over the process.

The BNP acting secretary general said the final decision will be announced after the nomination is finalised. - UNB
