Information and Broadcasting Minister and Awami League Joint General Secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud today said BNP's intention is inauspicious and the party wants to spread violence at village level by holding street march.

"BNP's intention is not good. They want to spread anarchies up to village level holding road march. But, the people of Bangladesh would not let them to do it and Awami League would remain alert," he said.

The minister told reporters while replying to a query after addressing the BAJUS Fair 2023 organised by Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) at International Convention Center in the city's Bashundhara area.

Hasan said earlier BNP held road march at different cities and now the party wants to hold the procession at union levels. They had created anarchies at different places in cities and their intention is not good, he continued.

He said BNP wants to spread violence at the villages. But the countrymen would not allow them to do that while the leaders and activists of AL would remain alert, he said.

He said the countrymen would resist them (BNP) if they want to create chaos at villages.

Replying to another query over a demand of BNP, Hasan said Begum Khaleda Zia is a convicted accused for corruption and she was supposed to be in jail now. But Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has shown her unprecedented generosity to Begum Zia and allowed her to stay at home considering the age and other problems in spite of being a convicted accused, he added.

For this, he said, they (BNP) should extend thanks to the premier.

Earlier in the seminar on 'Jewellery ideas of celebrities', the minister said, "Our export is about fully based on garment industry while it is about 85 percent. There is needed versatility in trade. And the information and communication technology has been added to this end. Jewellery industry can be involved in exporting in a big way."

He said there are good craftsmen in the country and "We will be able to export billions of dollars of jewelery in the future, if we get preparation from now".

BAJUS president Sayem Sobhan Anvir addressed the seminar virtually. The daily Bangladesh Pratidin editor Noeem Nizam, FBCCI vice president Amin Helali, actress Meher Afroz Shaon and Apu Biswas, among others, addressed it with BAJUS former president Dilip Kumar Roy in the chair.

The daily Kaler Kantho chief editor Imdadul Haque Milan conducted the seminar, reports BSS.
