Graft case against Tariqkue, Zubaida one more testifies

Md Shah Alam, an office assistant of the publication branch Dhaka District Commissioner's office, today testified in a graft case filed against BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman.

Dhaka’s Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Asaduzzaman recorded the depositions of the witness this afternoon. Later, the court has adjourned the hearing of the case till June 1 (Thursday).  

Of the 56 witnesses of the case eight testified in the court so far.

Earlier on November 1, of last year, the court issued arrest warrants against the two accused after accepting the charges pressed against them. On February 6,

of this year, the court issued a gazette asking the couple to appear in the court.

On September 26, 2007, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case against Tarique Rahman, his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and her mother Syeda

Iqbal Mand Banu for amassing illegal wealth of Taka 4.81 crore and concealing information about the assets, said the case document.

The court on April 13, 2013, framed charges against the two fugitives- Tarique Rahman and Dr Zubaida, as it earlier, scrapped their petitions to allow them appoint lawyers to defend them in the court in their absence. - Special Correspondent
