21 BNP men given 2 years in prison in vandalism case

A Dhaka court today convicted and sentenced 21 BNP leaders and activists including former central leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Ishak Ali Sarkar to two-year imprisonment in a case filed for vandalizing vehicles and snatching money from the drivers.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Hasibul Haque pronounced the judgment in absence of the convicts, and issued warrant to arrest them.

Sub-Inspector Ershad Hossain of Kotwali Police Station filed the case on October 2 of 2013. Police on May 18, 2015, submitted the charge sheet of the case against 57 people in the case and the court on July 31, fixed Monday (August 7) to pronounce the verdict.

According to the case document, BNP leaders and activists on October 1, 2013, blockaded Babubazar Bridge area and started hurling brickbats at police indiscriminately.

They allegedly vandalized 5/6 vehicles and snatched money from the drivers of those vehicles. - Special Correspondent
