BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said the people of the country want a change in the government from the bottom of their hearts as they have got fed- up with its misrule.
Speaking at a discussion meeting, he strongly urged the youth to unite for ousting the present regime by intensifying the ongoing one-point movement.
"They (ministers) will gain nothing, no matter what they say. People now want a change from the bottom of their hearts. Every moment people of this country want to see this government to go,” the BNP leader said.
He said people's lives have become miserable and unbearable due to unusual hikes in prices of everything, including food and clothing.
"I want to call upon all the youth to come forward to protect the country and the nation…let’s all fight together now to remove this fascism and establish a truly democratic system,” Fakhrul said.
He said the current monstrous regime ruling the country by destroying all the achievements of the nation. “So, let’s move forward as the time is short. We’ll take forward this movement in unison and our victory is certain.”
Bhasani Anusari Parishad arranged the discussion meeting at the Jatiya Press Club in memory of Gonoshasthaya Kendra founder and freedom fighter Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury who died on April 11 this year.
Fakhrul said BNP together with other parties will take steps for reforming the governance system of the state, if it returns to power, to turn Bangladesh into a welfare state.
“The leaders of our Ganotantra Mancha talked about the reform of the state. If we can do this, I have no doubt that we’ll be able to do something positive for the welfare of the people of this state and thus Dr Zafrullah's soul may rest in peace,” he said.
Jatya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President ASM Abdur Rab said those who want to remain in power by sacrificing the independence of the country must be removed to save the nation.
“This is our second liberation war. Many did not have the opportunity to participate in the country’s liberation war, I would like to tell them to join the second liberation war. Let’s fight together to establish the rights of your father, your elder brother, and the people of your country. This is a fight to protect our independence and sovereignty and to protect the soil of our motherland,” he said.
Nagorik Oikya President Mahmudur Rahman Manna said people in Bangladesh is not only facing a political crisis but also facing serious inflation amid the record hike in prices of all commodities.
“There’s no good governance in Bangladesh while the justice is being destroyed. To get rid of this situation, we have to put up a resistance against those who are ruling the country and doing injustice.”
