BNP has called a 48-hour hartal from early Saturday morning to early Monday morning as part of their plan to boycott the January 7 election, party senior joint secretary general announced on Thursday.

He said that the hartal will be enforced by BNP and its allies which have been waging simultaneous movement for free and fair election under a nonpartisan government.

The BNP and its 61 allies in the movement had been in mass motivation campaign distributing leaflets urging the people to boycott 'one-sided' election.

The have been organising rallies and processions across the country for about two years to realise the two demands.

Since October 29 last followng the foiling of their grand rallies on the day before, BNP and its allies observed blockade and general strike programmes intermittently.

Meanwhile, the government has deployed contingents of Bangladesh Army, Border Guard Bangladesh, Rapid Action Battallion, Police, Ansar and Village Defence Parties to conduct the elections guarding against violence. - GW News Desk
