Nabi, BNP Dhaka South joint convener held over Train fire.

Nabiullah Nabi, joint convener of BNP, Jatrabari Dhaka South unit was arrested on Friday night by the Dhaka Metropolitan police over the Benapole Express fire that killed four people early that night. DMP confirmed the arrest, according to reports published in a section of the news media.

The Benapole Express Train was set on fire by some unidentified people at about 9-05 pm on Friday. The fire burnt four coaches killing four people on board.

DMP arrested four other persons in this connection. Its details are expected to be clarified later on Saturday, according to DMP sources.

BNP's standing committee member Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan on Friday night told the news media that the train fire plus burning of buses were conspiratorial and were designed to put blame on the peaceful opposition movement for free and fair elections.

He said that the BNP and its allies have called upon the people to refrain from casting voted. They have not called for resistance. The train and bus burning incidents were thus conspiratorial, he added.

Foreign Minister Abdul Momen on the other hand siadn that the timing of the train fire coincided with calling of general strike by the BNP and that it was backed by an absolute intention to hinder the election. His speculation however was not supported by varified evidence. - GW News Desk
