Search committee will work as per constitution and law: Justice Hassan

Justice Obaidul Hassan, head of the newly formed six-member search committee for constituting the new Election Commission, today said the committee will perform its duties in accordance with the constitution and law.

“We will perform our duties given by the honourable President as per the constitution and law," he told BSS in a reaction after being appointed as the head of the search committee.

Justice Hassan, a judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, sought cooperation from all for carrying out the responsibility with utmost sincerity and fairness.

Earlier, President M Abdul Hamid today formed the six-member search committee to constitute the Election Commission (EC) as per the 'Chief Election Commissioner and Other Election Commissioners Appointment Act 2022’ for conducting the next general elections.

Other committee members are: Justice SM Kuddus Zaman of High Court Division, Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, Public Service Commission (PSC) Chairman Mohammed Sohrab Hossain, former Election Commissioner Mohammed Sohul Hossain and Writer Professor Anwara Syed Haq.
