Jamaat Sec Gen put on 3-day remand in sabotage case

Dhaka, Feb 14 - A Dhaka court yesterday granted a three-day remand of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar in a case filed with Paltan Police Station in the capital on the charges including sabotage and explosion of explosive substances.

Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Asaduzzaman Noor passed the remand order on Monday after hearing.

Special Public Prosecutor Azad Rahman of the CMM Court told the media about the remand of the Jamaat leader.

Earlier, police sought a ten-day remand of Golam Parwar. The remand prayer says, on March 26, last year, accused of the case Maulana Mamunul Haque had a meeting with unknown Jamaat, Islami Chhatra Shibir, BNP activists, militant and fundamentalist activists and leaders inside the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, when they made conspiracy to attack on different installations in the country in a bid to bring the downfall of the government through making remours.

Accordingly, the accused people attempted to violate the constitution of the country defaming Bangabandhu’s image in different places of the country including Brahmanbaria and Hathazari of Chattagram. They wanted to destroy state property, ransack installations of mosque to make the country a fundamentalist one, unstable and ineffective.

The case dossier further says, it seems they are still involved in the conspiracy to dethrone the government. From more than one sources the prosecution learnt that Golam Parwar was involved in the conspiracy.

However, lawyer SM Kamaluddin, on behalf of defence sought the bail of accused Golam Parwar canceling the bail plea of the prosecution. While prosecutor Azad Rahman, opposed the defence plea and after the hearing, the court passed the remand order.

The case dossier further says, the accused on the occasion of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu, wanted to spoil different functions arranged in the country and abroad through disturbances and other illegal activities.

Paltan Police Station Officer Khandaker Arifuzzaman filed the case on the charges of sabotage and making conspiracy and also attacking on the devotees of the national mosque. - Special Correspondent
