Atiqur Rahman Salu's book 'Lighthouse of History' launched

The publication ceremony of Itihased Batighar, a book by Atiqur Rahman Salu was held at the National Press Club on Tuesday 13 August 2024.



The cover of the book 'Lighthouse of History' written by Atiqur Rahman Salu, one of the student leaders of the student-mass movement of the 1969 and the former chairman of the International Farakka Committee, was unveiled on Tuesday. The unveiling was held at Maulana Akram Khan Hall of the National Press Club.

Former minister and chairman of Jatiya Party (Zafar) Mostafa Jamal Haider was the chief guest at the unveiling ceremony of the lighthouse of history. Advisor to BNP Chairperson Nazmul Haque Nannu, Bhasani Anusari Parishad President Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu, Bangladesh Labor Party Chairman, Mustafizur Iran Rahman Iran, distinguished writer former joint secretary of Bangladesh Government, Sirajuddin Sathi, Samybadi Dal leader Qazi Mostafa Kamal, journalist community leaders Elahi Newaj Khan Saju, Abdul Hye Sikdar, Syed Nazimuddin, chairman and Mahmudul Huq Sanu, secretary general, Moulana Bhasani Foundation, Tangail spoke at the meeting held under the chairmanship of International Farakka Committee Coordinator Mostafa Kamal Majumder.

The speakers praised Atiqur Rahman Salu's relentless movement for the rights of river and water, his dedication to the welfare of Bangladesh, and said that his was a determined fight for the right to water of common rivers. His movement should be carried forward, they said.

This book contains 22 articles written by Atiqur Rahman Salu. They are commemorative of his great person and career. These articles reflect on his successful forays into student politics, the student-mass movement of 1969, the liberation war, the river-water rights movement as chairman of the International Farakka Committee, and his cultural movement. Here he has carefully recorded memories of his student and family life.

From the article written on the declaration of independent democratic East Bengal from a public meeting organized by the East Pakistan Students Union (Menon) on 22nd February 1970, it is understood that they dared to speak about independence more than two years before the declaration of independence of Bangladesh and faced the wrath of the ruling coterie.

A fearless freedom fighter, Atiqur Rahman Salu was a very simple in his personal life. The writings in the book have brought out his character traits.
