Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus
Addressing the nation on the completion of 100 days of his interim government, Prof Yunus stated that investigations are already underway for 79 of the listed individuals.
The Chief Adviser also highlighted that the restructuring of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is nearing completion, aiming to strengthen the country's fight against corruption.
In a significant move, Prof Yunus announced the abolition of the controversial provision allowing individuals to "whiten" undeclared assets by paying a 15% tax.
Citing data from Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB), Prof Yunus said that the previous government and its allies had embezzled between US$ 12-15 billion annually, siphoning funds abroad.
The government, he added, is taking steps to recover the stolen money and has called for international cooperation in repatriating the illicit funds.
