BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman addressed concerns over the emergence of new political parties in Bangladesh, dismissing any worries about the political landscape's evolving nature. Speaking at a discussion on Wednesday, he stated, "If necessary, more new political parties may emerge in the country. This is a natural democratic process, and there is no reason for concern. BNP welcomes all democratic initiatives that serve the nation's needs and political progress."

The event was organized by the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), marking the 46th founding anniversary of the BNP student wing. On this occasion, the student body engaged in several activities, including a wreath-laying ceremony at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman, a blood donation camp, and an inter-hall badminton competition at Dhaka University.

Tarique emphasized that the BNP has always advocated for multi-party politics and diverse opinions. "From its inception, BNP has supported the democratic practice of diverse political views. Our stance remains clear: the people will decide through the election which party they accept or reject. It is those who fear facing the people's verdict or have ulterior motives who spread confusion about the election process," he remarked.

The BNP leader urged the public to maintain patience and focus on preparing for the upcoming elections. "Stay confident that the Election Commission will carry out its duties fairly," he said. He also called on BNP supporters to remain vigilant and not be misled by malicious campaigns, encouraging them to continue earning the trust of the people.

Tarique sharply criticized the ruling Awami League, particularly its leadership, asserting, "With the 'chief of the mafia regime' having fled the country, now is the time for every political party to unite for the transformation of Bangladesh into a democratic and humane state, free from discrimination."

He went on to stress the importance of presenting clear political programs and ideologies to the public, gaining their support in a democratic manner. "Reform and elections are both essential for bringing about meaningful change in the country. Reforms are an ongoing process to make the system more relevant, while elections are the cornerstone of a sustainable democracy," he added.

Tarique further explained that securing the political and economic power of the people is crucial to safeguarding democracy and human rights. "If the people's power is not protected, political reforms will not be sustainable," he asserted.

The BNP leader also pointed out the need for addressing the daily suffering of the people under the current regime. "The government must not neglect the people's struggles while pushing forward with reform programs. Questions remain about the government's failure to dismantle market syndicates or reduce the cost of essentials, and why the courts are still burdened with cases from the previous autocratic regime," he said.

Tarique issued a warning that if the interim government does not prioritize reforms effectively, conspirators may exploit the situation to undermine the country's democratic aspirations. "The pro-democratic forces, who have fought for the principles of freedom and justice, do not want to see this government fail. That is why BNP continues to support this government as a pro-people political party," he remarked.

He called for caution and vigilance, urging all BNP leaders and activists to avoid actions that could tarnish the party's reputation and detract from the hope for a mass uprising in 2024. Tarique underscored the significant role that students and youth can play in shaping the future of the nation. "Students should rise above personal gain and contribute to building a self-reliant, democratic Bangladesh."

Tarique also reminded JCD members that students are the key to building a knowledge-based society, urging them to focus on their education while remaining politically aware. "Your primary goal should be to study, study, and study."

Meanwhile, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir reflected on the overthrow of the fascist regime through the July-August mass uprising, noting that the people had established the interim government. He expressed hope that the interim government would facilitate a credible election by completing necessary reforms in the electoral and financial systems.

Fakhrul reiterated that the country’s issues could only be resolved through fair and credible elections, leading to the establishment of an elected government. "Various conspiracies are being hatched against BNP and the country both domestically and internationally. But, just as in the past, no conspiracy will weaken or divide BNP," he assured.

He urged BNP and JCD leaders and workers to use their intellect to confront these conspiracies and mount strong resistance. "BNP has always advocated for reforms. Reform is an ongoing process, but elections cannot be delayed in the name of reforms," Fakhrul concluded.
