Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul announced on Wednesday that the trial proceedings for the 'July genocide' will be completed in the trial court before the next national election, reaffirming the government's commitment to justice for the brutal killings of students and civilians.
"While the matter is in the court’s hands, we are hopeful that, Insha Allah, the trial proceedings will be completed before the upcoming elections," he said during a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy in Dhaka.
Responding to questions about the July-August killings, Dr Nazrul emphasized that the trial is progressing smoothly without any negligence. "Our government is committed to prosecuting those responsible for this brutal genocide," he added.
He also highlighted the government's focus on the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), which plays a key role in the trials. Investigations into the killings are progressing rapidly, and hearings are expected to begin in March.
The briefing was also attended by Environment, Forest and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, and Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
