Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed stated today that the people of Bangladesh will not heed the Awami League's (AL) call for a hartal. Instead, they are waiting for justice and the punishment of AL members for their alleged crimes.

"Those who were killed and injured during the July uprising are demanding justice. A boy like Ahnaf was shot on the orders of dictator Sheikh Hasina," Rizvi said, referring to the events of the 2018 student protests. "Sheikh Hasina has no regard for women and children and is more focused on clinging to power. She is a mentally ill woman."

Rizvi made these comments while addressing a financial aid ceremony in front of the BNP's Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka. The assistance was provided to disabled rickshaw puller Mamun, following directives from BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

He also criticized the law enforcement agencies, alleging that top criminals were operating freely in Dhaka with no visible action taken against them. "When a procession left the BNP office under AL's rule, law enforcement would attack us from all sides, like bees. Even if BNP leaders and activists hid in bamboo groves, RAB and police would find them. But today, there is no effort to arrest criminals or restore peace," he said.

Rizvi further claimed that the perpetrators of the deaths of Abu Sayeed and Mugdho were members of the law enforcement agencies but had not been brought to justice. "The state should file cases against those who carried out the massacre during the July uprising," he demanded.

On the issue of Salman F. Rahman, an adviser to former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Rizvi said, "Darbesh (Salman) destroyed the banking sector and the stock market. He aims to rise from his own ashes, but the trial against him is stagnant. The interim government should swiftly complete the trial of corrupt individuals like Salman."

Rizvi also commented on the foundation set up by Sheikh Hasina's daughter, Saima Wazed Putul, saying that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had found no trace of the foundation at its listed location. "When a fraud is in power, they make their children frauds too. Sheikh Hasina's family is a prime example," he added.

The event was chaired by Atiqur Rahman Rumon, convener of Amra BNP Paribar, and also addressed by BNP Treasurer and Advisory Council member M Rashiduzzaman Millat.
