Released today, the report, titled 'Human Rights Violations and Abuses Related to the Protests of July and August 2024 in Bangladesh', provides an in-depth investigation into the events that led to the end of the Hasina regime.
In a statement from the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, the interim government expressed gratitude to OHCHR for conducting what it described as the "most thorough independent investigation to date." The investigation was initiated at the invitation of the interim government.
The OHCHR report highlights severe human rights violations, including alleged extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, torture, and the disproportionate use of force by the Hasina government and its affiliated agencies. Among the key findings, the report reveals that deposed Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ordered security forces to kill protesters during the July uprisings and conceal their bodies to suppress the unrest.
The interim government has reaffirmed its commitment to addressing these violations and ensuring accountability for the actions detailed in the report.
