Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury highlighted the critical role of Ansar in maintaining law and order while contributing to the country’s development.

Speaking as the chief guest at the 45th National Rally-2025 of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Party (VDP) at the Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Academy in Safipur, Gazipur, on Wednesday, he praised Ansar members for their dedication and service. "Ansar members are vital in upholding law and order and participating in various national development initiatives. Their commitment deserves recognition," he said.

The adviser acknowledged that Ansar’s legitimate demands are being taken seriously, and noted the force’s significant role in ensuring social security. The Ansar-VDP, established with a dedication to serving the nation, now consists of 42 battalions, including 39 male, two female, and one specialized Ansar Guard Battalion (AGB).

He mentioned that 16 Ansar battalions are deployed alongside the army, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and police forces to maintain stability in remote hill areas. Ansar members also collaborate with local administrations during major religious festivals to promote social harmony.

Jahangir Alam further highlighted Ansar’s contributions in preventing land grabbing, supporting anti-adulteration drives, and tackling drug-related crimes. He also acknowledged the force’s role in securing diplomatic missions, creating an investment-friendly environment, and protecting key national infrastructures through the AGB.

"In times of natural and man-made disasters, Ansar-VDP members have consistently been at the forefront of humanitarian efforts," he added.

In response to a query about a potential ban on the Awami League, the adviser clarified, "I am not aware of any such decision and, therefore, do not wish to comment."

The event was presided over by Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Director General Maj Gen Abdul Motaleb Sazzad Mahmud, with Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Nasimul Ghani attending as a special guest. During the ceremony, the adviser presented medals to 18 officers, employees, and other ranks of the force in recognition of their exemplary service.
