"We have successfully managed to control mobs causing disturbances. However, different groups are creating chaos over various issues. We must stay alert to understand the true intentions behind these actions," he stated.
Chowdhury made these remarks after attending the 30th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) and the 'Bangladesh Coast Guard Day-2025' celebration as the chief guest at its headquarters in Agargaon.
In response to a question regarding the recent anarchy created by a group called 'Touhidi Jananta,' the Home Adviser emphasized the need for careful monitoring of such groups.
He also addressed the recent lifting of police verification for passport issuance, stating, "We have been considering this for some time to provide relief to the public, and now it is being implemented."
Regarding concerns over Rohingya refugees potentially obtaining Bangladeshi passports with the removal of police verification, Chowdhury reassured, "Rohingyas cannot easily acquire passports, as they need a voter identity card. We are ensuring that they do not receive national ID cards, and those who have already obtained them will be thoroughly scrutinized."
The adviser also praised the Bangladesh Coast Guard's role in securing the country’s riverine and coastal areas, noting the successful management of issues along the Myanmar border. "While there are occasional problems, both the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Coast Guard are handling them effectively," he said.
Chowdhury also highlighted the Coast Guard's efforts in preventing illegal fishing by foreign fishermen in Bangladesh's waters. "Our borders are fully secure, and we face no significant issues along them," he added.
Addressing corruption, the Home Adviser acknowledged it as a major challenge for Bangladesh, saying, "Corruption has permeated all sectors. However, there has been a noticeable decrease in the past six months since the interim government took office. While it hasn't yet reached an acceptable level, progress is being made."
Senior Home Secretary Nasimul Ghani was also present at the event, with Rear Admiral Md Ziaul Hoque, Director General of the Bangladesh Coast Guard, chairing the function.
