BNP acting Chairman Tarique Rahman on Friday said democracy in Bangladesh is still at stake even though fascism has been driven out through the popular uprising.

“Despite the departure of dictatorship, various efforts are being made to undermine the interim government,” he said while speaking at the biennial conference of the Janmashtami Udjapan Parishad at JM Sen Hall in the port city.

Tarique said democracy cannot be free from risk without a government elected by people.

For the past 17 years, Sanatanis have been politically exploited, but now they have realised this which is very important.

He assured that BNP would work to ensure equal rights for all to build a safer Bangladesh in the future.

BNP Standing Council Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Chattogram Divisional Organising Secretary Mahbuber Rahman Shamim, Chattogram City Mayor Dr Shahadat Hossain, and other monks and nuns from various monasteries and temples were also present, reports UNB.
