Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dhaka South unit on Thursday hosted an iftar mahfil for journalists at the Iskaton Ladies’ Club auditorium.
Addressing the programme as the chief guest, Jamaat’s Nayebe Amir Dr. Syed Abdullah m Taher urged journalists to play a constructive role and help establish democracy and a discrimination-free society in Bangladesh.
He said that Bangladesh achieved independence in 1971 at huge cost of blood, but the establishment of a sustainable democracy remained a distant dream even after half a century. The students and the masses have snatched another freedom in 2024 through sacrifice and this new Bangladesh should be built into a knowledge-based and honest society. He said Jamaat looks forward to the establishment of a welfare state in Bangladesh, and made mention of two ministers from the party in the last BNP-led government, who created example of honesty and efficiency.
Presided over by Md. Nurul Islam Bulbul, Amir of Jamaat Dhaka City South unit the function was also addressed by former editor of Daily Sangram Abul Asad, acting editor Naya Diganta Salahuddin Mohammad Babar, editor of GreenWatch Dhaka Mostafa Kamal Majumder, editor of Sangram Azam Mir Shahidul Islam, BFUJ secretary general Kader Gani Chowdhury, Journalist Kalyan Trust DG Mohammad Abdullah, president of BFUJ Obaidur Rahman Shaheen and DUJ president Md. Shahidul Islam among others.
