The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has appointed Nargis Begum, the widow of late BNP Standing Committee member Tariqul Islam, as the party’s new vice-chairman. Alongside her, Haji Aminur Rashid Yasin, who currently serves as the party’s relief and rehabilitation affairs secretary, has been designated as a member of the chairperson’s advisory council.

These appointments were announced by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a press release on Wednesday. Nargis Begum, who previously held the position of convener of BNP’s Jessore district unit, will now play a prominent role in the party's leadership.

The new roles are seen as part of BNP's ongoing organizational restructuring, as the party continues to adapt its leadership structure for the challenges ahead. Sources within the party have indicated that these changes are aimed at strengthening the party's operations and preparing it for the upcoming political landscape.

In related developments, BNP leader Mirza Abbas stated that public concerns regarding delays in the national election were valid, and accused the ruling government of creating chaos to postpone the electoral process.

The appointments of Nargis and Yasin are viewed as significant moves in the party’s strategic planning as it positions itself for future electoral battles.
