The Chief Adviser’s press wing on Sunday dismissed as false the circulating claims that Professor Muhammad Yunus is linked to the National Citizens Party (NCP) or public opposition to upcoming elections.

The rumors began after the interim government proposed national elections for February 2026. According to the press wing, Prof Yunus and the interim administration continue to enjoy broad public support, including backing from major political parties like BNP, Jamaat, NCP, and AB Party.

“These parties support the interim government's goals of democratic transition, reform, and accountability for crimes committed during the former Awami League regime’s July–August crackdown,” it said.

The press wing highlighted that a pro–Awami League website, BDvortex, first published a misleading headline claiming “80% want Dr. Yunus out,” without citing any source or data. The figure appeared only in the headline and was not supported by the article itself.

The rumor falsely claims that Prof Yunus founded the NCP to seek political power. In reality, the party was formed by student leaders of the July–August 2024 mass movement, including Nahid Islam, who resigned from his advisory role before establishing the party.

“There is no evidence linking Prof Yunus or the interim government to the formation of the NCP,” the statement said. “Let’s stay committed to facts and resist divisive propaganda.”
