“People, who are planning for holding general election without the trial and reform, are the ones, who are plotting to defer the polls. The young leaders of the mass uprising are fighting for elections and voting rights,” he said while addressing a brief rally in Jashore Khejur Chattar area as the NCP's street march reached the spot today.
The NCP convener further said they want to create justice-based politics against the corruption and discrimination.
“We want to build a state of responsibility and fairness, where the rights of people of all parties and opinions, regardless of their gender, caste and creed, will be realized. We want to be that one person that will stand for justice, for righteousness, and will stand against the corruption,” Nahid added.
Alleging the politicization of the country’s constitutional institutions, Nahid said, “For the past 54 years, Bangladesh’s state and constitutional institutions have been subjected to politicization. We will no longer allow this to continue. We want these institutions—like the police and the bureaucracy—to belong to the people, not to any political party.”
He further said over the past 16 years, the Election Commission has been the most politicized institution and it is the most weakened institution, having failed to protect the people’s right to vote, reports BSS.
“This Election Commission must be strengthened to ensure free, fair, and credible elections,” he stated.
Announcing a strong stance against corruption and extortion, Nahid said, “We have already taken to the streets against extortionists and corrupt individuals. In the coming days, a major movement will be organized against them.”
