BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has accused the interim government of providing shelter to anarchists following the brutal murder of a scrap trader in old Dhaka.

Speaking on Saturday, Tarique questioned why those inciting the mob have not been arrested and why the government is failing to take action. “A non-issue is being deliberately turned into an issue,” he said, accusing the authorities of protecting wrongdoers.

He urged the government not to compromise with anyone involved in criminal activities and emphasized that ensuring the safety and security of people’s lives and properties is a fundamental responsibility of the state.

Addressing a program in Gulshan, Tarique criticized the government for not apprehending the main suspect in the Shohagh killing case. He called on BNP members to investigate whether the government silently supports such incidents.

“The offenders cannot belong to any party,” he said, expressing deep concern over the current law and order situation.

Stressing that the country is not the property of any one group, Tarique urged party members to remain vigilant about ongoing conspiracies. “If I were in power, I would have ordered law enforcement to handle this situation firmly,” he added.
