The National Consensus Commission and political parties resumed their second round of reform talks on Sunday, marking the 12th day of dialogue focused on key constitutional matters.

The discussion, chaired by Commission Vice Chair Prof Ali Riaz, began at 11am at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital. Around 30 political parties are participating in the talks, presenting their positions on various proposed reforms.

Sunday’s session is expected to cover critical topics such as the declaration of a state of emergency and the appointment process for the Chief Justice.

Prof Ali Riaz stated that a consensus had already been reached on two aspects of the Chief Justice’s appointment.

The Commission aims to finalise and unveil a National Charter following the conclusion of the dialogues. This charter will serve as a roadmap for implementing state reforms.

The second phase of talks was inaugurated on June 2 by Chief Adviser and Commission Chairman Prof Muhammad Yunus. The Commission, formed on 15 February 2025, was mandated to build national consensus on crucial state reform measures.

The first round of dialogue, launched on 20 March, involved 33 political parties and alliances and concluded on 19 May.
