National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Dr Ali Riaz spoke at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital today.

National Consensus Commission Vice-Chairman Professor Dr Ali Riaz today announced that political parties have reached consensus on most of the procedures regarding the appointment of the chief adviser to the caretaker government.

Speaking after the 15th day of the commission’s second-phase dialogue at the Foreign Service Academy, Dr Riaz said the commission presented a revised, unified proposal outlining the appointment procedures. He noted that political parties agreed on most aspects of the proposal after detailed discussions.

“The commission will review the language and finer details of the draft, considering feedback from political parties tomorrow, and will finalise the proposal on Tuesday,” he added.

Dr Riaz expressed optimism that the structure and framework of the caretaker system would be finalised soon. “We believe this is achievable. Our target is to finalise the ‘July Charter’ by July 31. All parties share this goal,” he said.

He also expressed solidarity with the family members of the injured and martyred in the July Uprising, who formed a human chain earlier in the day outside the academy, demanding justice.

Dr Riaz stated that since February 15, the commission has been working on preparing a national charter. Through the first and second phases of dialogue, consensus has been achieved on several key issues, while a few matters remain unresolved. These, he said, will be addressed through continued discussions.

Commission members Justice Emdadul Haque, Dr Badiul Alam Majumder, Dr Md Ayub Mia, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Safar Raj Hossain, and Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser, attended the session.

Representatives from 30 political parties, including BNP, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, National Citizens' Party (NCP), Gono Odhikar Parishad, Gana Sanghati, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB), Biplobi Workers Party, and Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party, participated in today’s discussions.
