Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, has stated that the 13th parliamentary election will be held on time and the next five to six days will be crucial in shaping the nation's political course.

Speaking at a programme in Dhaka on Thursday, he assured that the election would not be delayed even by a day beyond the schedule announced by the chief adviser, Prof Yunus.

He recalled that the chief adviser had initially mentioned early April next year as the tentative time for the election, which was later brought forward to February following a meeting in London.

“We stand firmly by that timeline, and the election will not be delayed,” he said during the event organised by the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters’ Forum at the media centre of the government's administrative hub.

Clarifying the government's position amid speculation, Shafiqul said the election would be held in a festive and peaceful manner.

Acknowledging the past incidents of electoral violence, he said the interim government is committed to reducing such incidents to a minimum.
